School Staff In-ServiceIn-service programs are available by Pathways bereavement staff and may be arranged for any length of time – from a 45-minute presentation to an all-day workshop. Pathways will work with you to clarify objectives and tailor a program that meets your objectives and scheduling constraints. Listed below are just a few of the topics which may of interest to your school staff. This is not an inclusive list of workshops offered and will be adapted to meet your specific needs and interests. When a Student is Grieving – An overview of critical issues in child and adolescent bereavement. Bereavement Overview – What is bereavement/grief? What should I expect from a grieving person? How long is grief expected to last? These are some of the questions that will be addressed in this overview of bereavement. The Five Biggest Myths About Child/Teen Grief – Debunking some of the cultural myths we have about grief and offering practical suggestions to teachers for helping students in the classroom. Activities for Grieving Kids
– Hands-on workshop in developing activities to help students understand
the basic principles of dealing with grief and death. Grief is Not Just Emotional – Grief is experienced emotionally, but cognitively, physically, socially, behaviorally, and spiritually. Some of the signs to look for in a grieving child in each of these realms will be discussed. |
