Traumatic
Death Incidents
Pathways take
a comprehensive of an approach to meet the needs of bereaved children,
Adolescents and
their families who are suffering from the effects of sudden and traumatic
death. Pathways strive to create a bridge between home, school, and
the community, which has opened the door to many requests for assistance
when tragedies strike.
Example of high
profile critical incidents and traumatic death situations Pathways
has responded to:
- Drive-by shooting,
Jordan High School
- Baby hit by
a car and killed while sitting in a stroller with her mother. Siblings
attended Long Beach schools.
- One bullet,
two people. Jordan High School student while standing on the porch
with her boyfriend.
- Two Bancroft
students killed in a car incident on the way to school.
- Student at
Cubberly Elementary School. Father was a L.A. Police officer killed
in the line of duty.
- Millikan High
School Assistant Swim Coach killed in motorcycle incident.
- Teacher at
Tincher actively dying of cancer.
- Teacher at
Marshall Middle School whose son died suddenly-accident death due
in part to a controlled substance.
- Student at
Bancroft committed suicide just before school started.
- Lakewood student
fatally shot while riding in the back seat of a friend's car en
route to take another friend home.
- A member of
the Lakewood High School girl's volleyball team killed in a car
incident.
These are incidents
above and beyond the so-called "normal" deaths due to cancer,
heart disease, etc. that affect students and families in our schools
community.
