Support for Adults on the Journey through Grief

Journeys groups are the ongoing adult bereavement support groups sponsored by Pathways Volunteer Hospice.  These groups are designed for adults who are learning to cope with the loss and to gain encouragement from one another in the process of adjustment.  The groups are always provided free of charges and are open to the entire community.

Grief presents a variety of experiences, often causing us to feel we are losing our minds.  But grieving people are not crazy; we are learning to adjust to life, to a new set of circumstance and routines.  Sharing our experiences and learning from each other does not lessen our grief but it does help us to understand what in our experience is "normal".

Some of the topics we discuss in Journeys Meetings include

  • Am I losing my mind or does it just feel that way?
  • Dealing with anger in grief
  • Living with regrets and guilt
  • "Aren't you over this yet?" - Dealing with the expectations of others

Journeys groups are always led by a trained grief group facilitator.  The facilitators are either professional bereavement counselors or experienced volunteers supported by a professional grief counselor.  You can join the group at any time in your bereavement and attend as long as you like.  Pathways currently offers a Journeys group at:

Lakewood Regional Medical Center-General Bereavement: Tuesday Evening, 7:00 p.m., Doctors Dining Room, 3700 South Street, Lakewood

Pathways Volunteer Hospice-Widows Group: Monday Afternoon, 12:30 p.m.,  3300 South Street, Suite 206, Long Beach
